THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE USING PROPECIA (finasteride) 1mg tablet:
PROPECIA is indicated for the treatment of men with male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) to increase hair growth and prevent further hair loss. PROPECIA should not be taken by women and patients who have a hypersensitivity reaction. Precaution should be taken in regard to pregnant women handling PROPECIA tablets. A decrease of serum prostate-specific-antigen (PSA) may be seen upon testing. Common side effects are: decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorder, decreased volume of ejaculate (each of these adverse effects occurred in less than two men in one hundred), testicular pain, breast tenderness/enlargement and hypersensitivity. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE USING EZETROL (ezetimibe) 10mg tablet:
EZETROL, administered with an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) or alone, is indicated as adjunctive (added) therapy to diet for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol.  EZETROL should not be taken by patients who have a hypersensitivity reaction. Precaution should be taken when administering EZETROL to patients with raised liver enzymes, liver dysfunction, pregnant women and nursing mothers. Common side effects are: headache, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, flatulence, nausea, increased ALT,AST (liver enzymes), muscle pain (myalgia), hypersensitivity, rash and angioedema. When EZETROL is to be administered with a statin, please refer to the data sheet or consumer medicine information for that particular statin. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE USING FOSAMAX (alendronate) 40 & 70 mg tablets:
FOSAMAX is indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis to prevent fractures, including those of the hip and spine (vertebral compression fractures), and for treatment of Paget’s disease of bone in men and women. FOSAMAX should not be taken by patients who have a hypersensitivity reaction, food pipe (oesophageal) abnormalities, low calcium (hypocalcaemia) and have an inability to stand/sit upright for 30mins. Precaution should be taken when administering FOSAMAX to patients with active upper gastrointestinal problems, impaired renal function and calcium or vitamin D deficiency. Common side effects are: abdominal pain, dyspepsia, food pipe (oesophageal) ulcer, difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), abdominal distension, musculoskeletal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, flatulence and headache. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE USING ARCOXIA (etoricoxib) 60, 90 & 120mg tablets:
ARCOXIA is indicated for acute and chronic treatment of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, management of ankylosing spondylitis, treatment of acute gouty arthritis, and the relief of acute pain and chronic musculoskeletal pain, where other analgesic (pain medication) treatment has not been effective or the patient has had unacceptable side effects. As the cardiovascular risk of selective COX-2 inhibitors may increase with dose and duration of exposure, the shortest duration possible and the lowest effective daily dose should be used. ARCOXIA should not be taken by patients who have a hypersensitivity reaction, congestive heart failure, ischemic heart disease, recent CABG or angioplasty, peri-operative period for cardiac or major vascular surgery and uncontrolled hypertension. Precaution should be taken when administering ARCOXIA to patients with, impaired renal function, fluid retention (oedema), dehydration, hypertension, cirrhosis, a history of gastro-intestinal ulcers/bleeds or liver dysfunction. ARCOXIA cannot take the place of aspirin for the prevention of heart attack or stroke. If patients are currently taking aspirin for this purpose, they should not discontinue without consultation with their doctor. Common side effects are: hypersensitivity, fatigue, dizziness, fluid retention, hypertension, dyspepsia, heartburn, nausea, headache and raised liver enzymes (ALT & AST).
