MSD NZ began trading in Wellington, New Zealand, in 1962. Initially MSD NZ marketed both animal health and human medicines, with its animal range out-selling the human range.
In 1970 the head office moved to Manukau City, Auckland where a manufacturing plant was established to supply the local market. A high-tech plant in its day, it was relocated to Australia in the mid-eighties where today almost all MSD NZ’s products are sourced. In April 2002, in its 40th anniversary year, the company relocated to new offices in Newmarket, in close proximity to the CBD, hospitals and medical school.
Today MSD NZ’s focus is on clinical research and marketing a wide range of prescription only medicines for human health conditions. The animal health products are marketed worldwide through joint venture company Merial.
MSD NZ employs around 100 people in a variety of sales and marketing, clinical research, regulatory, policy, customer services and administration roles.
